Numbers 9:15-23

The text above is one of the richest passages of the Scriptures. We are privileged by the technology of today and we can have a modern version of what happened here. If you want to go to a certain location, you can just put the address in the GPS and it will tell you which direction to go and which turns to take. Have you ever imagined a divine GPS? One that would tell you whom to marry, which job to accept, which profession to have, where to live, etc?

The described method of living brought great difficulties to the people described in the passage. We have an internal “GPS” controlled by a hopeless rebellion against divine wish. It was also this way with Israel. However, the circumstances of life defeated the individual stubbornness. Everything depended on an “If” – For example: “Tomorrow I will visit you if the cloud stays over the Tabernacle.” Verse 21 states that sometimes the cloud stayed only overnight and lifted in the morning. Thus, people would have to break camp and move on.

This way, the Israelites had to substitute their personal “GPS” with the “GPS” of God. For this reason, throughout their paths, even though difficult and hard-working, Israel did not suffer from exterior issues. Every trouble they faced were caused by themselves. God takes care of His people.

To us, the Lord Jesus left a similar promise. He said: “I will always be with you, until the end of the age” (Mt 28:20). In John 16:13, we read that “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.” We have the need for one thing: faith. Believing in the guidance of the Lord and obeying Him is the best way to live. Safety, peace, and happiness will be the immediate results of this way of living. Experience it and you will see the glory of God in your life.

Standing still, walking, or running, but never without the guidance of the Lord!
