Currently, the word "obedience" is not a well-seen aspect. In general, people want to do whatever they want, without caring about the consequences. In today's text meditation above, verses 3-13 talk about the blessings or rewards of obedience; verses 14-39 talk about the punishment for disobedience; and verses 40-46 are a reinforcement and petition for us to choose being obedient.
The words contained in these verses are clear and harsh. They leave no doubt that we should not joke around with God! We could even have apparently good arguments for disobedience; however, will God accept our lame excuses?
We can then ponder on the spiritual law: who is sufficiently able to defend us from accusations before God? The Bible says that Jesus is our advocate, our lawyer (I John 2:1), who justifies us and guarantees that we are free from being slaves of sin (the power that separates us from God), if one day we choose the right path: Jesus Christ (John 14:6). Yet, for those who do not want to obey the calling of God to repentance, there is no other resource, and they will be condemned by their own decisions.
Whoever obeys God and chooses the right path, will win, guaranteeing their salvation through Christ.
